Fostering Hope Golf Marathon

On behalf of Broken Shackle Ranch & Fostering Bulloch, I want to personally thank you for your willingness to help with or play in and recruit sponsors for the Fostering Hope Golf Marathon.

Broken Shackle Ranch (BSR) was founded in 1984 and is presently caring for 30 neglected, abused, abandoned, and underprivileged young men. We are a Christian-based residential school who takes referrals from the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), and private placements from concerned parents/families. Your efforts in this event will provide Broken Shackle Ranch with the funding to welcome even more hurting children into a home setting-something most of them have never known.

Broken Shackle Ranch has developed an eight part-program designed to continually challenge each student to redirect their lives. Our program consists of academics, vocational training, character building, life skills, spirituality, work ethic, emotional health, and the transition into independence. We provide our students with the encouragement, mentoring, materials and tools to help each of them succeed in life by becoming productive members of society.

Fostering Bulloch exists to share the love of Christ with children in crisis situations in real and tactile ways. Major efforts include recruiting new foster homes, managing our Hope Chest (clothes closet), building & managing the development of the 7th Mile Campground, serving as community liaison & supervisor for BSR’s Joseph House, coordinating multi-agency efforts to make use of large scale donation in our region, and being open to serve in other capacities as God sees fit to send them our way.

Take pride and satisfaction in knowing that you are making a significant difference in our community and that your selfless efforts are helping to change person at a time.

Fostering Hope Golf Marathon

What is a Golf Marathon?

The Marathon Event

You and 39 other fanatical golfers will tee off at dawn to play 100 holes of golf in one day. We have changed the rules of golf for the day to facilitate reaching your 100-hole goal. However, as you will later determine, we have not jeopardized the integrity of the game. You will find under our format that you will play each round of golf in 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes. Each golfer will be provided with his/her own cart for the day and we encourage you to recruit a caddie to drive your cart.

What do I get for participating in the Golf Marathon?

We will start you off with a great Tee Package. This package will be made up of quality merchandise (tees, balls, swag, and snacks etc.). We will then provide you with breakfast, lunch, drinks and munchies all day long. You will compete for prizes for most funds raised, closest to the pin, long drive, etc. Prizes often consist of gift certificates, custom furniture pieces, and more. You will play unlimited golf during the day. You will enjoy true and enduring significance knowing that your efforts will have a long-lasting effect upon the lives of many children.

Who do I get for a caddie?

Please feel free to use anyone who is moved by the host organization’s mission but is not a golfer. This could be your spouse, daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, friend, work associate, etc. Your caddie will be responsible for driving your cart, providing encouragement, and generally just assisting you during the day. It has been our experience that you can play faster, have more fun and possibly win more prizes if you have a caddie. Keep in mind, your caddie can also help you with your pledge campaign.

Can I pull together my own team?

Yes. We encourage you to identify a team of three or four golfers. You may have more fun playing with your regular golfing buddies. Please insure that you provide each of your team members’ names to the Player Coordinator or to your Assistant Coordinator. In addition, ensure the golfers on your team understand their individual responsibility to get 25 people to give $1 per hole to help raise $2500 or more in this event per golfer.

Can you really play 100 holes of golf in a day?

80% of the golfers who participate play 100 holes or more. We have had a gentlemen 72 years young play in this event play 113 holes.  Most golfers say this event has resulted in one of their best rounds of golf in the last five years. How many golfers do you know who can say they have played 100 holes of golf in one day?
